Castor oil was used for everything in the VL Pearson house. I only remember how much I disliked taking it to prevent colds, constipation, and healing wounds.
But it was also used as a weapon amongst my aunts and uncles. It wasn't wise to sleep with your mouth open in the VL Pearson house otherwise you may wake up choking on a spoonfull of castor oil that someone so affectionally poured down your throat.

I remember as a child that I went to see my cousin perform as the Scarecrow in a live adaptation of the Wizard of Oz. He was amazing. He embodied the character with humor and ease.
His body moved like jello and if I recall correctly he had an amazing singing voice. I don't remember anything else about that play except the awe I felt while watching him.

Grandad Virgil Pearson would eat buckets of ice cream, devour a bowl of bran cereal and milk, drink a nice cup of buttermilk and even had no problem sipping on the milk that had soured (because nothing should go to waste).
Only problem was that I don't think he realized that he was severely lactose intolerant.
Unfortunately, everybody else did .
